Reusable Community

Inspired by the prompt 'Create a Disguise for ...', I came up with my own definition of 'disguise' and rather than camouflaging a bin, I made a different use of a 'bin'. Rather than making a container where people put stuff into it and forget about it, this new definition of a bin is quite the opposite. People come to this 'bin' and get stuff out of it and make it come into use rather than call it 'trash'.

In other words, it is a community large container where anyone can put their undesired objects into the allocated areas. It is can be classified into a type of food bank and clothes/object charity shop but for free and without the need of people being present in order to run or opening hours.

E.g.

Someone doesn't use their old shoes anymore, but rather than throwing them away - which 1. is a waste of material 2. someone else could use them instead - they placed it into this free, open recycled container for someone else to use. Equally, if someone has some food which will expire the next day and knows they won't eat it in the next 24hrs, they can put it into the container for someone else to use.

This container benefits: homeless people, art &design students, people wanting to find unique goods, people wanting to have a sustainable lifestyle. It is for everyone.

Anyone can join in and help. Individuals or companies. e.g. restaurants or food industries can but their spare food which would otherwise go to waste at the end of the day, and put it in this container.

In terms of care, there would have to be someone to regularly check that it is being handled correctly. Since it is a community container, it would be found across the city and boroughs. It would be great if the idea could be backed up and funded by the government as part of a Sustainable & Creative Scheme.

Adding to this container there would be another smaller container for waste - dividing General Waste, Paper & Card, Plastics and Glass.

To make it interesting and appealing, the design of the container would have to be sharp, colourful, graphic and bold in order to pop and look clean. So far this is a sketch, but I would like to develop this idea further and make it in Photoshop. The size would be 3m x 1.6m approx - allowing diverse individuals to access it - e.g. short people
